Real gemstones are normally a little cloudy — meaning they have a slight natural impurity. If a stone is crystal clear, without any stains or scratches, it can be synthetic or fake.

Fake stones are often lightweight. Real gemstones have a density of their own, so their weight will feel a little heavy in the hands. If one of the two same-sized stones is very light, then understand.
